2nd Infantry Division in WWII, Framed

The division landed at Omaha Beach, participated in the St Lo breakthrough. As part of the Northern France Campaign they fought toward Brest and captured the major port after a 39 day siege.

Moved by truck and rail to St Vith they relieved the 95th Infantry Division in the line and attacked toward the Rhine.

 

The German counter-offensive force the division to withdraw to Elsenborn where they tenaciously held.  The division moved to Remagen on the Rhine crossing on March 21, 1944
The division  drove rapidly across Germany capturing Leipzig.  Before the end of the war they were moved 200 miles south to Schonsee and were attacking Pilsen  in Czechoslovakia, when Germany surrendered.
