1st Cavalry Division in WWII, Framed

The division received training for amphibious and jungle operations in Australia. 

 

The division participated in the New Guinea campaign as 1000 men and officers conducted a reconnaissance in force on Manus and Los Negros, Admiralty Islands.

The 5th, 7th and 12th Regiments of the division assaulted Leyte on Oct 20, 1944 while the 8th Regiment landed at La Paz, Samar Island.  The division consolidated and operated in the northern part of Leyte moving toward Tibur on 28 Dec 1944 and making contact with 32nd Division at Villaba on 30 Dec.

After landing at Mabilao, Luzon elements of the division marched on Manila.  They reached the shores of Manila Bay by 12 Feb, 1945.

 

With four regiments abreast, the division assaulted the Shimbu Line reaching the crest of Bench Mark Hill 9 on March 10th 1945.

 

In subsequent operations the division opened the Batangas-Calamba supply road to Manila, seized Lipa, seized Alaminos, and the Bicol Penisula.

 

The division ceased combat operations on 26 Jun, 1945.
