1st Cavalry Division in WWII, Framed |
|
The division received training for amphibious and jungle operations in Australia.
The division participated in the New Guinea campaign as 1000 men and officers conducted a reconnaissance in force on Manus and Los Negros, Admiralty Islands.
With four regiments abreast, the division assaulted the Shimbu Line reaching the crest of Bench Mark Hill 9 on March 10th 1945.
In subsequent operations the division opened the Batangas-Calamba supply road to Manila, seized Lipa, seized Alaminos, and the Bicol Penisula.
The division ceased combat operations on 26 Jun, 1945.
