Raised at Fort Devens, MA in September, 1965 the Brigade was deployed to Vietnam and stationed in the III Corps Tactical Zone. It participated in Operation Attleboro in War Zone C in the western portion of Tay Ninh Province where it uncovered a large enemy base camp in October, 1966. It also participated in Operation Junction City. It’s area of operation was I Corps, in northern Vietnam. After the Americal Division was redeployed out of Vietnam in November, 1971, the 196th Light Infantry Brigade became a separate brigade-sized element to safeguard its area of operations. The 196th Light Infantry Brigade departed Vietnam as the part of Operation Keystone Pheasant in the spring of 1972. |
